Touch the Sky – Brave

Disney/Pixar’s upcoming film Brave isn’t out yet. But the soundtrack is, and it’s fantastic. Julie Fowlis, Patrick Doyle, Mumford & Sons provide an excellent line-up of Scottish/Celtic tunes. You should buy it.

Naturally, I arranged some sheet music. Here is the first track of the album, Touch the Sky. Composed by Alex Mandel, with lyrics by Alex Mandel and Mark Andrews – as performed by Julie Fowlis.

Lyrics

When the cold wind’s a calling
And the sky is clear and bright
Misty mountains sayin’ and beckon
Meet me out into the light

I will ride,
I will fly
Chase the wind and touch the sky
I will fly
Chase the wind and touch the sky

nah nah
na na nah nah
na na nah
na na nah nah
na na nah

Where darkness hides secrets
And mountains are fierce and bold
Deep waters pour perfections
Of times lost long ago

I will hear every story
Take hold of my own dream
Be as strong as the seas are stormy
And proud as an eagle’s scream

I will ride, I will fly
Chase the wind and touch the sky
I will fly
Chase the wind and touch the sky

nah nah
na na nah nah
na na nah
na na nah nah
na na nah

And touch the sky…

na na nah nah
na na nah
na na nah nah
na na nah

Chase the wind…
Chase the wind…
Touch the sky…

    Hi Sebastian -
Great arrangement of “Touch the Sky”. I’ve tried the Sibelius link on two computers now and the score won’t load. Would it be possible for you to transpose this up to FM, PDF and send to me? I’d very much appreciate it.
    Many thanks
    Jason

        Hi Sebastien -
thanks for your work. Unfortunately, I think I misdirected you.
From your original GM version, could you transpose up a minor 3rd to Bb?
I’ll try uninstalling Sibelius and then reinstalling. Hopefully that will allow me to do it myself.
        thanks
        Jason

I have just been thoroughly exploring your blog/website:). I’m very impressed! I often pick up soundtracks by ear myself but I though I can play them, I don’t write them down… What you are doing is fantastic! Believe it or not, I found your site because I was searching for Oogway Ascends from Kung Fu Panda, as I’m learning it on my Irish Tin Whistle at the moment:). The range on that piece is quite tricky for the Tin Whistle with its high D, but otherwise very manageable, so I’ll think of some way to make it less squeaky… Those Chinese flautists are very talented…I say. Have you thought of doing the Soundtrack from Braveheart…it’s gorgeous with its Whistles and Uillean Pipes…If you did want to, I’d recommend A Gift of a Thistle, Wallace Courts Murren, and The Princess Pleads for Wallace. Anyway, just thought I’d say how great your arrangements are and what a good job you are doing:). (I’d also look at doing the music from THE HOBBIT trailer, it’s pretty cool….and easy….and has a mean as key change from D Major to D Minor…just saying:)

Hey, thanks! Glad you found my website (and useful things on it!)

I love the Braveheart score. James Horner writes fantastic music. If/when I find some spare time, I’ll perhaps have a look :)

I can see you have redone the site again! It made me wonder what site I was on! :P It looks nice :)
Could you answer this simple question? What minor key has 4 sharps in it? I find a piece hard if I don’t have the key memorized. I honestly don’t think I can play it do to it’s difficulty. :(

Hey #1 Kid, The key with 4 sharps is E. It has a relative minor of c# minor. You can look stuff up stuff like that on Wikipedia probably. And I like the changes cuz now it looks like my blog! :P

I’m still changing things around. WordPress Twenty-Eleven failed at SEO options, so I (temporarily) reverted to an old design. I’ll be setting up my own design at some point when I find time…

    Terrific arrangement!

Are you able to transcribe for concert band? Would be a great
piece to perform (early) for a future concert.

    Please contact me!

    Hi,

I found this by using a well known search engine! I’m really pleased that someone has written the music down so I can try and play it. I saw Brave this week and thought this was an amzing song, even though the words are so simple; but yet very inspiring. Anywho. being new to trying to play the piano I find it easiest to listen to the music (it helps with interpretations, feeling and timing) any chance you could upload a video of you playing this.
    Thanks :)
